Luggage and Packing

 Luggage and Packing

Luggage and packing are based upon individual needs and the weight you want to carry and pedal around all day.  A 230 pound man and a 135 pound woman, 40lbs of gear and a 45lb bike means your body will be generating the momentum (pedalling) to get 445 pounds up and over 1500 ft hills.  Keeping the luggage to the necessary minimum will make a difference.

But, as mentioned in the training section and as you can see above, the heaviest weights are the Captain and the Stoker.  If you look at the gear list below, you may be able to eliminate a couple / few pounds (share a toothbrush, 2 rather than 3 sets of gear, wear cycling shorts in the evening), but there is nothing you can eliminate that would have the impact of reducing the weight of the riders.  Getting the rider weight down would make the biggest impact, e.g., if Steve lost 20 and I lost 10, that’s almost the weight of ALL of our luggage.  We were going to have to buckle down and lose weight!
